The Rapzilla Freshmen Interview: From a Near-Fatal Crash to a New Name

In a 2021 Rapzilla Freshmen interview, Scootie Wop said he had begun using drugs as a young teenager and later became addicted to Xanax. He described falling asleep while driving, leaving the road and hitting a pole hard enough for his head to go through the windshield. Afterward, his mother enrolled him at Atlanta Leadership College, where he spent two years and said his life changed spiritually as well as physically.

Scootie also explained that he had previously recorded as Lil Sco. He said he started over under a new name after feeling directed by God to do so, combining the nickname “Scootie” with “Wop.” The interview also documents his early Christian hip-hop momentum: winning Miles Minnick’s Pluto challenge, recording “Slide Music 2” with TJ GodFearin’ and BigBreeze, and joining Rapzilla’s 2021 Freshmen class.

tagteamchamps: Scootie Wop and okaywarren Join Forces as Producers

In November 2023, Rapzilla reported that Scootie Wop and okaywarren had formed the production duo tagteamchamps. The announcement described their combined palette as soul, trap drums, sample cuts, synthesizers and layered textures.

The report places Scootie’s work beyond his own recordings, crediting him with production for KB, indie tribe., nobigdyl. and Porsha Love. It also notes that Scootie contributed substantially to Rapzilla’s 2021 Freshmen album, while okaywarren played a key role in the 2022 edition.
